Important update:

Which public transport card do we accept:

  • We urge Dutch students to apply for a "week OV-studentenkaart", because our Programme has limited means for reimbursing travel expenses.
  • This is a link to apply for a personal OV-chipcard for traveling with public transport in the Netherlands.
  • If you provide proof that the cost of a discount card is less than the difference between the regular-priced and discounted train tickets used to attend Mastermath courses, you may apply for reimbursement of the NS discount subscription. We accept 'Dal Voordeel' and 'Altijd Voordeel'.
  • Foreign students who do not have a bank account yet are allowed to temporarily use OVpay. Please add your personal details in the app to ensure that the provided overview is in your name.

Who can request for travel reimbursement:

  • Students enrolled in a mathematics master in the Netherlands, and registered for a Mastermath course, can apply for travel reimbursement.
  • Travel expense reimbursements are not available for PhD students.

What can be reimbursed:

  • Mastermath reimburses travel by public transit, second class, from the city of the student's home university to the venue of the course. This includes train and local transit in the city where the course will take place, as well as bike rental (OV fiets). Travel by car will not be reimbursed.
  • Reimbursement for travel from another city is only possible if the costs are lower than traveling from the student's home university city, and if requested in advance via email to contact@mastermath.nl.
  • Travel expenses for courses that take place in the city of the home university are not eligible for reimbursement.

How to request reimbursement:

  • Create an OV-chipcard overview for the travels, including prices, made for Mastermath courses. If you have a Flex subscribion use MyNS; or if you use OVpay visit their website.  Ensure that your overview is free of any private travel and only includes travels related to Mastermath courses. Note that you need a registered/personal OV-chipcard.
  • Please ensure that your travel expenses are divided into groups below €100. The provided overview should always match the amount you request for reimbursement.
  • Submit your request using the reimbursement form.
  • You will receive reimbursement within 8 weeks.
  • Travel reimbursement for the current academic year closes on 31 July. Please submit your reimbursement requests before this date.
